SUPER MIG 2209 is used for the welding of duplex stainless steels in a range of applications including the fabrication of pipe and plate. The weld metal provides a high resistance to pitting and stress corrosion cracking especially in high chloride media.
The nickel is over matching the parent material by 2-3% to provide an optimum balance of austenite and ferrite in the as welded condition.
SUPERTIG 2209 is used for the welding of duplex stainless steels in a range of applications including the Fabrication of pipe and plate. The weld metal provides a high resistance to pitting and stress corrosion cracking especially in high chloride media.
2209 is used to weld duplex stainless steels such as (Type 2205). The welds offer excellent resistance to stress corrosion, cracking and pitting. The microstructure of the weld metal consists of austenite and ferrite. The ferrite content of the weld metal will be lower than the ferrite content of type 2205 base metal. Welding of duplex stainless steels calls for controlled welding parameters to achieve specified mechanical and corrosion resistant properties.
Features
Bare, corrosion-resistant, duplex welding rods for welding austenitic-ferritic stainless alloys of the 22% Cr, 5% Ni, 3% Mo types. 2209 has high general corrosion resistance. In media containing chloride and hydrogen sulphide, the alloy has high resistance to intergranular corrosion, pitting and specially to stress corrosion. The alloy is used in a variety of applications across all industrial segments.
Applications
ER2209 is intended to weld duplex stainless steels. It exhibits high tensile strength and resistance to stress and corrosion cracking. Exhibits a low ferrite.

Deposited All Weld Metal Properties
Data is typical for ER2209 weld metal deposited by Tig using 100% Argon as the shielding gas.
Note
Parameters for tig welding are dependent upon plate thickness and welding position.
Other shielding Gases may be used for Tig welding. Shielding gases are chosen taking Quality, Cost, and Operability into consideration.
